Setup Menu Use the SETUP MENU to configure a variety of printer features. Setup Menu Menu item Values Printer Language PCL Emulation* PS Emulation The printer language defines how the computer communicates with the printer. Your computer uses printer languages, such as PCL emulation and PostScript emulation, to send print data to the printer. Setting a printer language as the default does not prevent the software application from sending print jobs that use the other printer language. Power Saver Disabled 1...120 (20*) The Power Saver menu item lets you reduce power usage when the printer is idle by determining the length of time (in minutes) the printer waits after a job is printed before it goes to a reduced power state. If you have selected a Power Saver value, the Power Saver message replaces the Ready message and becomes the new printer default when the printer is in a Ready state. Both messages indicate the printer is ready to receive jobs. If your printer is in constant use, select a high setting, such as 120. Under most circumstances, this keeps the printer ready to print with minimum warm-up time. However, a high setting also uses more energy. Set Power Saver to 1 to put the printer in Power Saver mode one minute after it finishes a print job. This uses much less energy, but requires more warm-up time for the printer. If your printer shares an electrical circuit with room lighting and you notice lights flickering, you may want to set Power Saver to 1. If you want a balance between energy consumption and a shorter warm-up period, select a Power Saver value between 1 and 120 minutes. *Factory default Using the Operator Panel and Menus 47
