See "Face Detection" (A 52) for more information. If more than one face is detected, the camera focuses on the face closest to the camera. When taking pictures of subjects other than people, or framing a subject with which no face is detected, the AF area mode setting switches to Auto, and the 35 camera will automatically select the focus area (up to nine areas) containing the subject closest to the Focus area camera. w Auto The camera has nine focus areas, and automatically selects the focus areas containing the subject closest to the camera. Press the shutter-release button halfway to activate the focus area. When the shutter- release button is pressed halfway, the focus areas that are in focus (up to nine areas) selected by the camera will be displayed in the monitor. 35 x Manual Select one of 99 focus areas in the monitor. This option is suited to situations in which the intended subject is relatively still and not positioned in the center of the frame. Rotate the rotary multi selector or press H, I, J, or K to move the focus area to where the subject is, and take a picture. To cancel focus area selection and change flash, macro mode, or self-timer settings, or adjust brightness, vividness, or hue, first press the k button. The camera has nine focus areas, and automatically
selects the focus areas containing the subject closest
to the camera. Press the shutter-release button

release button is pressed halfway, the focus areas
that are in focus (up to nine areas) selected by the
camera will be displayed in the monitor.
