Seats and Restraints This system is designed to make installation of child restraints easier. When using lower anchors, do not use the vehicle's safety belts. Instead use the vehicle's anchors and child restraint attachments to secure the restraints. Some restraints also use another vehicle anchor to secure a top tether. 1. If the child restraint manufacturer recommends that the top tether be attached, attach the top tether to the top tether anchor, if equipped. Refer to the child restraint instructions and the following steps: 1.1. To access the top tether anchors, raise the seat cushion by pulling up on the strap loop at the rear of the seat cushion and fold the seat cushion forward. Then fold the seatback forward until it is flat. See Rear Seats on page 3‑10 for additional information. 1.2. Place the child restraint in the vehicle, near the seating position that you are using. 1.3. Route the top tether according to your child restraint instructions and the following instructions: 3-47 If the position you are using does not have a headrest or head restraint and you are using a dual tether, route the tether over the seatback. If the position you are using does not have a headrest or head restraint and you are using a single tether, route the tether over the seatback.
