3ware Escalade Storage Switch User Guide Installing the storage switch on systems that boot from a different device Materials required: • 3ware CD-ROM which contains the 3DM utility. • 3ware driver installation diskettes (2) for SuSE Linux. Create disk arrays Refer to the 3ware Hardware Installation and 3ware Disk Array Configuration Utility chapters. Install the 3ware driver Note: ***kernel string*** refers to the kernel version (i.e. 2.2.14-5.0, 2.4.2-2 smp, etc.) Check 3ware's website for supported versions. Note: *** refers to the SuSe Linux version you are installing (i.e. su64, su72, etc.). Check 3ware's website for supported versions. Case 1: Your system runs SuSE Linux with a 2.2 kernel 1 Edit /etc/rc.d/boot, and before the line: ECHO_RETURN=$rc_done: add the following line: /sbin/insmod /lib/modules/***kernel string***/ scsi/3w-xxxx.o 2 Mount the floppy drive and copy the driver into a working directory. 112 www.3ware.com
