GETTING READY Replacing the needle Use the screwdriver and a needle that has been determined to be straight according to the instructions in "Checking the needle" (page 27). Press (Needle position button) once or a twice to raise the needle. a Hold the needle with your left hand, and then e use a screwdriver to turn the needle clamp screw toward you (counterclockwise) to remove the needle. a b a Needle position button Turn off the machine. b a Screwdriver b Needle clamp screw • Do not apply a strong force when loosening or tightening the needle clamp screw, otherwise certain parts of the machine may be damaged. CAUTION z Before replacing the needle, be sure to turn off the machine. Otherwise, injuries may occur if one of the operation buttons is accidentally pressed and the machine starts embroidering. With the flat side of the needle toward the rear f of the machine, insert the needle until it touches the needle stopper. a Place fabric or paper under the embroidery c foot and cover the hole on the needle plate. Note z Before replacing the needle, be sure to cover the hole in the needle plate with fabric or paper to prevent the needle from falling into the machine. a Needle stopper While holding the needle with your left hand, g use the screwdriver to tighten the needle clamp screw. Lower the presser foot lever. d a a Presser foot lever 28 CAUTION z Be sure to insert the needle until it touches the needle stopper and securely tighten the needle clamp screw with the screwdriver. Otherwise, the needle may break or damage may result.

Replacing the needle
Use the screwdriver and a needle that has been
determined to be straight according to the
instructions in "Checking the needle" (page 27).

Turn off the machine.
CAUTION

Place fabric or paper under the embroidery
foot and cover the hole on the needle plate.
Note
Before replacing the needle, be sure to cover
the hole in the needle plate with fabric or
paper to prevent the needle from falling into
the machine.

Hold the needle with your left hand, and then
use a screwdriver to turn the needle clamp
screw toward you (counterclockwise) to
remove the needle.

or tightening the needle clamp screw,
otherwise certain parts of the machine may
be damaged.

With the flat side of the needle toward the rear
of the machine, insert the needle until it
touches the needle stopper.

use the screwdriver to tighten the needle
clamp screw.
