J Jacks The telephone receptacles on your wall or in your MultiPASS 1000 used to connect the MultiPASS 1000 to the telephone line, handset, answering machine, extension telephone, or data modem. M Manual dialing Pressing the individual buttons on the numeric keypad to dial a fax or telephone number. Also called regular dialing. Manual receiving A setting that allows you to answer all incoming telephone and fax calls. If you hear a slow beep it indicates an incoming fax transmission from another machine. Memory sending Scans a document into memory before the MultiPASS 1000 dials the number and sends it. This method is faster than direct sending and it allows you to retrieve your original document immediately after scanning. Modem A device that converts (MOdulates) digital data from transmission over telephone lines. At the receiving end, this device converts the modulated data (DEModulates) to digital format that the computer understands. MultiPASS Desktop Manager for Windows software Canon's exclusive software package that allows you to use the MultiPASS 1000 with your Windows software applications.
