dB(A) Stands for decibel level (a decibel being a unit of measurement for the intensity of the sound coming from the unit), adjusted for background noise. Dialing methods Ways of pressing one or more buttons to access a number to connect to an outside party or fax machine. Dialing methods include one-touch speed dialing, coded speed dialing, group dialing, and manual (regular) dialing. Dithering A method by which color dots are combined on a page to produce a wide spectrum of colors. Document The sheet of paper containing the data that you send to or receive from a fax. dpi Dots per inch. A unit of measurement for indicating a printers resolution. DRPD Distinctive Ring Pattern Detection. Allows you to assign up to five different ring patterns to distinguish voice and fax calls using your telephone companys special services. ECM Error Correction Mode. The ability of your MultiPASS to reduce system and line errors when sending or receiving from another fax with ECM capability. ECM is most effective in areas where the telephone lines are in poor condition or there is frequent interference on the line. FAX/TEL switching The ability of the MultiPASS to automatically detect whether a call is from a fax or telephone. With this feature, one telephone line can be shared by both the telephone and the fax. FINE The fax setting for documents with very small characters and lines. Glossary Glossary G-3
