The smaller the image size, the higher the zoom factor you can use before reaching the image deterioration point. • Though digital zoom generally causes a deterioration of image quality, some digital zoom without image deterioration is possible with image sizes of "8M (3264 × 2448 pixels)" and smaller. The range in which you can use digital zoom without image deterioration is indicated on the display. The deterioration point depends on the image size. ■ Turning Off Digital Zoom You can turn off digital zoom if you want to use optical zoom only. This will help to avoid deteriorated images due to accidentally switching over from optical zoom to digital zoom when shooting snapshots. 1. In a REC mode, press [MENU]. 2. On the "REC" tab, select "Digital Zoom" and then press [X]. 3. Use [S] and [T] to select "Off" and then press [SET]. • If you want to show the entire digital zoom range, select "On" here.
