Enabling MPLS To use MPLS in a network, such as the one shown in Figure 34-1, MPLS must be globally enabled and explicitly configured on the provider-edge routers. Enable IP routing on the switch if it is disabled. Set the label protocol on the switch to LDP. The default protocol is TDP. Enter interface configuration mode for a loopback interface. Note The loopback must be /32. Assign an IP address to the loopback interface. The subnet mask value has to be a host mask, /32. Specify the interface to force the loopback. Enter interface configuration mode, and specify the Layer 3 interface connected to the MPLS network. Valid interfaces include 10GigabitEthernet1/1/1, GigabitEthernet1/1/2, and VLANs. Assign an IP address to the Layer 3 interface connected to the MPLS network. Enable MPLS forwarding of IPv4 packets along normally routed paths for the interface. Return to privileged EXEC mode. Verify the configuration. Verify the configuration. Verify the configuration. (Optional) Save your entries in the configuration file. Repeat these steps for every PE router in the network and the appropriate interfaces until all routers and connected interfaces are enabled for MPLS. Use the no mpls ip global configuration command to disable MPLS on the switch.
