Removing the heat-sink assembly NOTE: Before working inside your computer, read the safety information that shipped with your computer and follow the steps in Before working inside your computer. Allow sufficient time for the heat sink to cool before you touch it. CAUTION: For maximum cooling of the processor, do not touch the heat transfer areas on the heat sink. The oils in your skin can reduce the heat transfer capability of the thermal grease. Prerequisites 1. Remove the base cover. 2. Remove the wireless card. 3. Remove the solid-state drive. 4. Remove the memory modules. 5. Remove the rear-I/O cover. 6. Remove the computer base. Procedure 1. Turn the system-board assembly over. 2. Disconnect the fan cable from the system board. 3. Disconnect the fan cable from the system board. NOTE: For computers shipped with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 graphics controller, remove the fans after disconnecting the fan cables from the system board. 4. Turn the system-board assembly over. 5. Remove the seven screws (M2x3) that secure the heat-sink assembly to the system board. 6. Lift the heat-sink assembly off the system board. 42

Prerequisites
1.
Remove the
base cover

2.
Remove the
wireless card
.
3.
Remove the
solid-state drive
.
4.
Remove the
memory modules
.
5.
Remove the
rear-I/O cover
.
6.
Remove the
computer base
.
Procedure
1.
Turn the system-board assembly over.
2.
Disconnect the fan cable from the system board.
3.
Disconnect the fan cable from the system board.
NOTE: For computers shipped with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 graphics controller, remove the fans after
disconnecting the fan cables from the system board.
4.
Turn the system-board assembly over.
5.
Remove the seven screws (M2x3) that secure the heat-sink assembly to the system board.
6.
Lift the heat-sink assembly off the system board.
