4 Updating The Dell DX Object Storage Platform Software Updates for the Dell DX Object Storage Platform software are periodically made available to correct problems, improve performance, introduce new features, and support additional hardware. It is recommended that you install the updates to ensure that the system runs optimally. See the Dell DX Object Storage Platform Interoperability Guide at dell.com/ support/manuals to determine the minimum software versions supported. DX Cluster Services Node updates may include: • System BIOS • System firmware • System device drivers • Operating system • DX Cluster Services Node software NOTE: The DX Storage Node operating system and associated drivers are part of the storage node software image hosted on the DX Cluster Services Node. NOTE: Storage Node updates are not delivered by the Update Manager. Updating The System Software On The CSN With the Version 3.1 software release, Dell is releasing an Update Manager (UM) tool. The UM tool deploys system updates on the system. The UM is an rpm installed on the system and is part of the DX appliance system software. Updates are deployed as a .tar.gz file called the payload. The UM includes all of the updates listed above for the DX Cluster Services Node. At this time, the UM does not provide updates for Hard Drive (HDD) firmware. Downloading The Update Manager Payload You can download the Update Manager payload for your DX system from dell.com/support/downloads. The Update Manager payload is located on the appropriate download page under the IDM category, and is a compressed archive containing all the drivers, firmware and software needed for the CSN. Download the file and copy it to the system. For information on executing the update, see Executing Updates. NOTE: To ensure that you have the complete and uncorrupted download, compute an MD5 checksum on the download, and compare it with the MD5 checksum found on dell.com/support. Executing Updates NOTE: Ensure that you have copied the Update Manager payload (*.tar.gz) to the /root directory. Run the following command as root to execute the update: /opt/dell/dellAUM/dellaum -noappdb -o UPDATEPACKAGE=/root/DX-CSN-UM-3.0.0.tar.gz 21
