3. Replace any hardware components that have failed. NOTE: To replace any components, see the HP 4x00/6x00/8x00 Enterprise Virtual Array User Guide for replacement instructions. See Table 1 (page 7) for the link to this guide. TIP: If there is a yellow attention icon, you may still be able to do the upgrade, for example, when leveling is occurring. If any unusual icons are visible, check with your HP-authorized service representative before doing the upgrade. If you cannot resolve the error, contact your HP-authorized service representative for assistance. Checking the battery If you have an EVA8000 or EVA8100, HP recommends that you also check the visual indication of the load test or charge state of the battery before proceeding with the upgrade. If the battery exhibits the following event and visual indicators, contact HP Support for assistance before starting the controller software upgrade. Event indicators When exhibiting incorrect behavior, you will see events indicating that the status of the battery has changed: • On battery 0, the event is: 0e030019; The status of battery assembly "0" has changed. • On battery 1, the event is: 0e070019; The status of battery assembly "1" has changed. Visual indicators A battery undergoing a load test is indicated by: • Both the green Status and amber Fault LEDs flashing, when running any XCS version earlier than 6.220. • Slow-flashing (every two seconds) green Status LED and the amber Fault LED is off, when running XCS 6.220 or later. An active charging cycle is indicated by a fast-flashing (every one second) green Status LED and the amber Fault LED is off. Looking at a controller with a failed battery assembly, the failed battery assembly will have the Fault LED on solid, but the battery assembly that is actually causing the failure will appear to be in the testing state. Checking and upgrading your SAN infrastructure Estimated time to complete: Varies depending on the number of components that may require upgrade. When to perform: Any time prior to the upgrade It is important to ensure that your SAN environment meets the configuration requirements of the XCS controller software. This includes HBA firmware, system drivers, and Fibre Channel switch firmware. The SAN Visibility tool can assist you in this task as it automates the collection of such data and provides you, through a network connection, with a full report. You can collect all needed data 14 Pre-upgrade tasks

Event indicators
When exhibiting incorrect behavior, you will see events indicating that the status of the battery
has changed:
On battery 0, the event is:
0e030019; The status of battery assembly "0" has
changed.
On battery 1, the event is:
0e070019; The status of battery assembly "1" has
changed.
Visual indicators
A battery undergoing a load test is indicated by:
Both the green Status and amber Fault LEDs flashing, when running any XCS version earlier
than 6.220.
Slow-flashing (every two seconds) green Status LED and the amber Fault LED is off, when
