Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. 2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer. 3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet, and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer. 4. Remove the bottom cover (see Bottom cover on page 17). 5. Remove the rear I/O bracket (see Rear I/O bracket on page 20). 6. Remove the bottom shield (see Bottom shield on page 21). 7. Remove the system board (see System board on page 31). Remove the top cover: 1. Remove the Phillips M2.5×4.0 screw (1) from the small metal bracket, and the remove the bracket from the metal top shield (2). 2. Remove the four Phillips M2.5×4.0 screws (3) that secure the plastic top cover to the metal top shield. 36 Chapter 5 Removal and replacement procedures

Before removing the top cover, follow these steps:
1.
Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is
off
or in Hibernation, turn
the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2.
Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3.
Disconnect the power from the computer by
first
unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet, and
then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4.
Remove the bottom cover (see

5.

6.
Remove the bottom shield (see

7.

Remove the top cover:
