System board Removal and replacement procedures Description PM57 PCH Peak-M system board with 1 GB of dedicated video memory (includes replacement thermal material) Spare part number 576772-001 Before removing the system board, follow these steps: 1. Shut down the computer. 2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer. 3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet, and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer. 4. Remove the battery (see "Battery" on page 4-7). 5. Remove the following components: a. Memory module compartment cover (see "Expansion memory module" on page 4-8) b. Top cover (see "Top cover" on page 4-10) c. Speaker assembly (see "Speaker assembly" on page 4-14) d. Hard drive (see "Hard drive" on page 4-20) e. Processor fan/heat sink assembly (see "Processor fan/heat sink assembly" on page 4-22) f. Video fan/heat sink assembly (see "Video fan/heat sink assembly" on page 4-27) When replacing the system board, be sure that the following additional components are removed from the defective system board and installed on the replacement system board: ■ Expansion and primary memory modules (see "Expansion memory module" on page 4-8 and "Primary memory module" on page 4-15) ■ WLAN module (see "WLAN module" on page 4-16) ■ RTC battery (see "RTC battery" on page 4-19) ■ Processor (see "Processor" on page 4-24) Maintenance and Service Guide 4-29

System board
Before removing the system board, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet, and then
unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.

5. Remove the following components:
