Chapter 2 Connecting and Routing Cables to the HP NetServer LPr Mounting the PDU Horizontally NOTE For additional information, see the instruction sheet that came with the PDU. Installation Steps To mount a PDU horizontally, follow these steps: 1. Determine the exact location of the PDU. A PDU is not recommended behind certain HP units, as shown in Table 2-2. (Horizontally mounted PDUs conflict with mechanical access if mounted behind these units.) A PDU can be located in an empty EIA unit and a filler panel put in the corresponding space in the rack front. NOTE As shown in Table 2-2, If you locate the PDU behind the HP NetServer LXr 8000, HP Rack Storage/8, or HP NetServer LH 3r, then the hot-swappable power supplies designed for access and replacement from the rear of the rack will not be accessible. If you locate the PDU behind the HP NetServer LXr Pro8 or the HP FiberChannel 30, there will be mechanical conflicts when the units are extended out the rear of the rack for service. 2. Orient the PDU horizontally so receptacles face rearward toward the outside of the rack. Hold the PDU at the location you choose. Note where the bracket will align with its hex nuts. See Figure 2-4. 20

Mounting the PDU Horizontally
NOTE
For additional information, see the instruction sheet that came
with the PDU.
Installation Steps
To mount a PDU horizontally, follow these steps:
1.
Determine the exact location of the PDU. A PDU is not recommended
behind certain HP units, as shown in Table 2-2. (Horizontally mounted
PDUs conflict with mechanical access if mounted behind these units.)
A PDU can be located in an empty EIA unit and a filler panel put in
the corresponding space in the rack front.
NOTE
As shown in Table 2-2,
If you locate the PDU behind the HP
NetServer LXr 8000, HP Rack Storage/8, or HP NetServer LH
3r, then the hot-swappable power supplies designed for access
and replacement from the rear of the rack will not be
accessible. If you locate the PDU behind the HP NetServer
LXr Pro8 or the HP FiberChannel 30, there will be mechanical
conflicts when the units are extended out the rear of the rack
for service.
2.
Orient the PDU horizontally so receptacles face rearward toward the
outside of the rack. Hold the PDU at the location you choose. Note
where the bracket will align with its hex nuts. See Figure 2-4.
