RTC battery Removal and replacement procedures Description For use only with HP Compaq 6545b computer models For use only with HP Compaq 6540b computer models For use only with HP Compaq 6445b computer models For use only with HP Compaq 6440b computer models Spare part number 583268-001 593860-001 583268-001 593861-001 Before removing the RTC battery, follow these steps: 1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. 2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer. 3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet, and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer. 4. Remove the battery (see "Battery" on page 4-7). 5. Remove the keyboard (see "Keyboard" on page 4-23). Remove the RTC battery: 1. Disconnect the RTC battery cable 1 from the system board. 2. Detach the RTC battery 2 from the clip built into the top cover. (The RTC battery is attached to the top cover with double-sided tape.) Reverse this procedure to install the RTC battery.
