83 CHAPTER 5 Using the Console Menu The Console Menu can be used for certain types of appliance configuration and for upgrading firmware. A terminal or a computer running terminal emulation software must be connected to the serial configuration port on the appliance to access the Console Menu. NOTE: The Web interface and the VCS are recommended for configuration because they can be used from any computer with network access to the appliance. The Web interface cannot be accessed until an IP address has been configured; IP address configuration can be done through the Console Menu. The VCS can discover the appliance with or without an IP address assigned. Console Main Menu By default, anyone with physical access to the connected terminal or computer with terminal emulation software can use the Console Menu. Figure 5.1: Console Menu
