12: Security Settings SSL Settings (continued) Common Name Expires Key length Type Description Enter the same name that the user will enter when requesting your web site. Example: If a user enters http://www.widgets.abccompany.com to access your web site, the Common Name would be www.widgets.abccompany.com. Enter the expiration date, in mm/dd/yyyy format, for the new self-signed certificate. Example: An expiration date of May 9, 2010 is entered as 05/09/2010. Select the bit size of the new self-signed certificate. Choices are: 512 bits 768 bits 1024 bits The larger the bit size, the longer it takes to generate the key. Approximate times are: 10 seconds for a 512-bit RSA key 30 seconds for a 768-bit RSA key 1 minute for a 1024-bit RSA key 30 seconds for a 512-bit DSA key 2 minutes for a 768-bit DSA key 6 minute for a 1024-bit DSA key Select the type of key: RSA = Public-Key Cryptography algorithm based on large prime numbers, invented by Rivest Shamir and Adleman. Used for encryption and signing. DSA = Digital Signature Algorithm also based on large prime numbers, but can only be used for signing. Developed by the US government to avoid the patents on RSA. 3.
