The Shutter-release Button Press halfway Press all the way To set focus and exposure (shutter speed and aperture value), press the shutter-release button lightly until you feel a slight resistance. Focus and exposure remain locked while the shutterrelease button is pressed halfway. While pressing the shutter-release button halfway, press the shutter-release button the rest of the way down to release the shutter and take an image. Do not use force when pressing the shutter-release button, as this may result in camera shake and blurred images. Press the button gently. The Basics of Shooting and Playback B Notes About Recording Images and Saving Movies The indicator showing the number of exposures remaining or the indicator showing the maximum movie length flashes while images are being recorded or while a movie is being saved. Do not open the battery-chamber/memory card slot cover or remove the battery or memory card while an indicator is flashing. C AF-assist Illuminator and Flash If the subject is dimly lit, the AF-assist illuminator (A104) may light when the shutter-release button is pressed halfway, and the flash (A57) may fire when the shutter-release button is pressed all the way down. C To Make Sure You Do Not Miss a Shot If you are concerned that you might miss a shot, press the shutter-release button all the way without first pressing it halfway. 31
