AE lock - Locking the exposure Suitable for situations when optimal exposure is difficult to achieve (such as excessive contrast between the subject and the surroundings). For example, if the sun is in the frame and shooting with automatic exposure results in a dark subject, re-compose your shot so that the sun is not in the frame. Then, press the button to lock the metered value (exposure) temporarily. Then compose your shot again with the sun in the frame and shoot. In other words, use AE lock when you want an exposure setting that's different from the setting that would normally apply to the image you want to shoot. 1 Compose the picture where you want to lock the metered value (exposure), then press the button. AEL ● To cancel AE lock, press the button again and release it quickly. If you want to lock a different exposure, re-compose the picture and press the button again.
