Getting Started • Number of Recordable Images and Playback Time (at 23°C with new batteries) The following shows the number of shots and playback time possible when using various batteries. Battery Type Image Storage Capacity*1 (using the flash for 50% of shots) Playback Time*2 1 CR-V3 420 pictures 380 minutes AA Ni-MH batteries 250 pictures 200 minutes AA nickel manganese batteries 120 pictures 100 minutes AA alkaline batteries 30 pictures 30 minutes *1 The image storage capacity is a guideline based on CIPA standard measurement conditions, and may vary depending on actual shooting conditions of use. (CIPA standards: LCD monitor is on, 50% flash use, 23°C.) *2 The playback times are a guideline based on PENTAX measuring conditions and may vary depending on the actual shooting conditions of use. • In general, battery performance temporarily deteriorates as the temperature decreases. When using the camera in a cold environment, keep it warm by putting it in your pocket or inside your coat. Battery performance that has deteriorated due to low temperature will be restored when the battery is returned to room temperature. • Due to the characteristics of AA alkaline batteries, camera performance may deteriorate. AA alkaline battery is not recommended except for emergencies. • Due to the characteristics of AA alkaline batteries, AA nickel manganese battery, camera performance may deteriorate at low temperatures. Use of other batteries (such as CR-V3) is recommended when using the camera at low temperatures. • Be sure to take spare batteries with you when traveling abroad or to a cold region, or if you intend to take a lot of pictures. • Battery Level Indicator You can check the battery level by the # symbol on the LCD monitor. # (lit green) ↓ $ (lit yellow) ↓ % (lit red) ↓ [Battery Depleted] : Adequate power remains. : Battery is running very low. : Battery is exhausted. : The camera will turn off after the message appears. When using AA nickel manganese batteries, the battery strength may not be properly displayed due to the characteristics of this kind of battery. The battery level indicator may show # even after using the batteries for a long time. The camera also may turn off, without warning while the battery level indicator still shows #. 17
