Checking Spark Plug Cleaning Air Filter 1 A ':5 8 ..: g1Il o (~2---\(~ If engine is down on power, difficult to start or runs poorly at idling speed, first check the spark plug. • Remove spark plug see "If engine doesn't start:" • Clean dirty spark plug. • Check electrode gap - it should be 0.5 mmlO.020" (A) readjust if necessary. • Use only suppressed spark plugs of the approved type. Rectify faults which have caused fouling of spark plug: Incorrect carburetor setting, too much oil in fuel mix, dirty air filter, unfavorable running conditions, e.g. operating at part load. • Fit a new spark plug after approx. 100 operating hours - or earlier if the electrodes are badly eroded. • If there is a noticeable loss of engine power: • Set choke lever to .L - • Grip tab (2) and pull the filter cover (1) off the carburetor. • Clean away loose dirt from around the filter. 41
