44 Getting Started Setting up your computer certain precautions to further reduce the risk of personal injury or damage to the computer. CAUTION: Do not apply heavy pressure to the computer or subject it to sharp impacts. Excessive pressure or impact can damage computer components or cause your computer to malfunction. CAUTION: Some PC Cards can become hot with prolonged use. If two cards are installed, both can become hot even if only one is used extensively. Overheating of a PC Card can result in errors or instability in the PC Card operation. Be careful when you remove a PC Card that has been used for lengthy periods of time. Setting up your computer Your computer comes with a rechargeable battery pack that must be charged before you can use it. To use external power or to charge the battery, you must attach the AC adapter. See "Connecting to a power source" on page 45. To register your computer online, or to sign up for an Internet account, you must connect the built-in modem to a telephone line. Before using your computer, you may want to: ❖ Add more memory ❖ Connect a mouse ❖ Connect a full-size keyboard ❖ Connect an external monitor ❖ Connect a local printer
