My Book Pro Device Rear View Illuminated Power Button Use the power button to: Safely power down the device Use a short momentary button press to initiate the safe power-down function that avoids data loss or damage to the device when you are using the USB interface. This function only works when the WD Drive Utilities software is installed on your computer. To power the device back up from a safe power-down condition, you can either press the button again or disconnect and reconnect the USB interface cable. Force a device power-down Press and hold the button for four seconds or longer to initiate the forced powerdown function. This function works even if the WD Drive Utilities software has not been installed on your computer. This function powers down the device regardless of the currently mounted disk volumes.
