Seats & Safety Belts A Center Passenger Position (CONT.) Rear Seat Passengers To make the belt shorter, pull its free end as shown until the belt is snug. Buckle, position and release it the same way as thelap part of a lap-shoulder belt. If the belt isn't long enough, see the Index under Safety Belt Extender. Make sure the release button on the so buckle faces upward or outward you would be ableto unbuckle it quickly if you ever had to. It's very important for rear seat passengers to buckle up! Accident statistics show that unbelted people in the rear seat are hurt more oftenin crashes than those who are wearing safety belts. Rear passengers whoaren't safety belted can be thrown of the vehicle out in a crash. And they canstrike others in the vehicle whoare wearing safety belts. To make the belt longer,tilt the latch plate and pull it along the belt. !6
