Audience Preface Audience This guide is designed for the person installing, configuring, and maintaining the router, who should be familiar with electronic circuitry and wiring practices and has experience as an electronic or electromechanical technician. It identifies certain procedures that should be performed only by trained and qualified personnel. Organization Table 1 lists the major sections of this hardware installation guide. Describes safety recommendations, site requirements, and required tools and equipment, and includes installation checklist. Describes how to install the router, and shows how to connect to the router console and auxiliary ports. Describes how to isolate problems, read LEDs, and interpret error and recovery messages. Describes the ROM monitor (bootstrap program), how to recover an enable password, and how to recover software images. Describes the configuration register settings and procedures for changing these settings. Conventions This guide uses the conventions listed in Table 2 to convey instructions and information. Optional keywords or arguments appear in square brackets. A choice of required keywords appears in braces separated by vertical bars. You must select one. Examples of information displayed on the screen. Examples of information you must enter. Nonprinting characters, for example passwords, appear in angle brackets in contexts where italics are not available. Default responses to system prompts appear in square brackets.
