Section 4 - Configuration S.M.A.R.T. Test S.M.A.R.T stands for"Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology". This is a system on a hard drive used to monitor and report on the health of the drive. If the HD is grayed out, then it does not support S.M.A.R.T. Click Management > Disk Management > S.M.A.R.T. Test. To run the S.M.A.R.T Test, check the box by the hard drive you would like to test. Select Test Type of Quick Test or Extended Test. The Quick Test usually takes less than 10 minutes. This test will check the electrical, mechanical, and read performance of the hard drive. The Extended Test requires more time to complete than the Quick Test. However, it is much more thorough. The results are displayed as Passed/Failed on the web UI. If you check the box by Send Result by E-Mail, results will be sent to you as an E-mail alert. Click Start to run the test. Click the Create Schedule button if you would like to run the test at a pre-determined time and date. A warning message will prompt you to stop all network services and avoid accessing data on the hard drive while running the test. Click Yes to continue the S.M.A.R.T. Test.
