Memory module Description 4096-MB, 800-MHz, PC2-6400 2048-MB, 800-MHz, PC2-6400 1024-MB, 800-MHz, PC2-6400 Spare part number 509411-001 509410-001 509409-001 Before removing the memory module, follow these steps: 1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. 2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer. 3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer. 4. Remove the battery (see Battery on page 44). 5. Remove the primary hard drive cover (see Primary hard drive cover on page 46). Remove the memory module: NOTE: This computer has both primary and expansion memory modules. The primary memory module is located on the bottom, closest to the system board, and the expansion memory module is located on top of the primary memory module. 1. Spread the retaining tabs (1) on each side of the memory module slot to release the memory module. (The edge of the module opposite the slot rises away from the computer.) 2. Remove the module (2) by pulling it away from the slot at an angle. NOTE: Memory modules are designed with a notch (3) to prevent incorrect insertion into the memory module slot. 54 Chapter 4 Removal and replacement procedures
