Authentication Authentication is used to validate the identification of each device or computer that is attempting to access a network. The authentication method used on a network is determined during network design and depends on the network security requirements. Consequently, authentication methods are closely associated with encryption options that are also used on the network. HP Jetdirect wireless print servers support the following authentication methods: z Open System. Authentication is not used, virtually allowing open access to a device. Encryption may or may not be used, depending on the need for data security. z Shared Key. Authentication is based on a secret, common WEP key that must be configured on each device. A device that does not have the proper WEP key cannot access the network. z EAP/802.1x. IEEE 802.1x EAP (Extensible Authentication Protocol) is used on networks that use authentication servers, such as a RADIUS (Remote Authentication Dial In User Service, RFC 2138) server, for client authentication on a network. Authentication
Authentication is used to validate the identification of each device or computer that is
attempting to access a network. The authentication method used on a network is
determined during network design and depends on the network security requirements.
Consequently, authentication methods are closely associated with encryption options that
are also used on the network.
HP Jetdirect wireless print servers support the following authentication methods:
Open System.
Authentication is not used, virtually allowing open access to a device.

Shared Key.
Authentication is based on a secret, common WEP key that must be

EAP/802.1x.
