Using Virus and Spyware Protection Virus and spyware protection checks for viruses, spyware, unwanted programs, and other potential threats by scanning files and programs each time they are accessed on client computers. It checks removable media, email messages and attachments, and network files. Users can manually request scans for any or all files, folders, and programs on their computers, and administrators can schedule scans to occur at regular intervals. Virus and spyware protection functions as a single component within Total Protection Service, but includes policy options that let you configure some of the virus protection and spyware protection features separately. Virus and spyware protection includes optional features that let you or client computer users select the types of files and programs to scan and the types of threats to detect. You or the users can also specify files to exclude from virus scans and programs that should not be detected as spyware.
