Installation Guide for the Model FE508 and FE516 Fast Ethernet Hubs Configuration Examples The Model FE508 and Model FE516 hubs are designed to provide flexibility in configuring your network connections. Each hub can be used as a standalone device or can be used with 10 Mbps repeaters, switching hubs, or other interconnection devices in various configurations. These configuration examples show the integration of the hub in network environments of all sizes and types, whether it is a network of a few workstations connected to a printer or in a segmented network with multiple users or workgroups and other networking devices. The following examples are shown in this chapter: • 100BASE-TX shared repeater • Building small organizations or remote offices − Migrating to 100 Mbps operation − Multiport switch with Fast Ethernet backbone 100BASE-TX Shared Repeater In this configuration, the Model FE508 and Model FE516 hubs are used in a pure 100 Mbps network. The Model FE508 and Model FE516 hubs can be used in a standalone network with users attached directly to the hub, as shown in Figure 5-1. The hub can also be stacked in any combination for a maximum of 64 (100 Mbps ports in a single collision domain) as shown in Figure 5-1. Figure 5-1. configuration examples show the integration of the hub in network environments of all sizes and
types, whether it is a network of a few workstations connected to a printer or in a segmented network
with multiple users or workgroups and other networking devices.
