VCR Recording Without the Timer DVD Number buttons, SET, · (dot) DISPLAY 123 456 789 0 VIDEO CH +/- INPUT DIGITAL/ ANALOG z REC H PLAY x STOP X PAUSE REC MODE 1 Press VIDEO to operate the VCR. 2 Insert a tape with its safety tab in place. 3 Press DIGITAL/ANALOG to select the broadcast. 4 Press number buttons to select the channel you want to record, and press SET. For details to set the channel, see "Watching TV" (page 34). 5 Press REC MODE repeatedly to select the recording mode, "SP" or "EP." For details about the recording mode, see page 75. 6 Press z REC. "REC" appears in the front panel display, and recording starts. To stop recording Press x STOP. To pause recording Press X PAUSE. To restart recording, press X PAUSE again. If you pause recording for more than five minutes, recording stops automatically. To watch a DVD while recording Press DVD to operate the DVD recorder, insert a disc, and press H PLAY. z Hints • You can use the CH+/- button to select a channel. • You can select a video source from the LINE 1 IN or LINE 2 IN jacks using the INPUT button. • Tape information displayed on the TV screen will not be recorded on the tape. • You can turn off the TV during recording. If you are using a cable box or a satellite receiver, make sure to leave it on. Notes • You cannot change the recording mode, channel, or input source while recording. • If you insert a tape with its safety tab removed, the tape is ejected when you press z REC. • You cannot record digital closed captions (page 35). • Only selected audio can be recorded (page 35). Recording using the Quick Timer (One-touch Timer Recording) You can set the recorder to record in 30-minute increments. 1 Press VIDEO to operate the VCR. 2 Press z REC repeatedly to set the duration. Each press increases the time by 30 minutes, up to six hours. 0:30 1:00 5:30 6:00 (Normal recording) "c" and "OTR" light up, and the remaining recording time appears in the front panel display. When the time counter reaches "0:00," the recorder stops recording and turns off. 76
