100 Learning the Basics Powering down the computer Using Turn Off or Shut down If you are not connected to a Windows® network server (domain server), power off the computer as follows: To turn off the computer. 1 Click Start, Turn off computer. The Turn off computer window appears. Sample Turn off computer window 2 Click Turn Off. NOTE Holding the Shift key while the Turn Off computer Windows dialog box is open, changes the Stand By button to hibernate. For more information about setting up hibernation, refer to "Using Hibernation mode" on page 103. The computer turns itself off. If you are connected to a Windows® network server (domain server), power off the computer as follows: 1 Click the Start button, then Shut down. The Shut Down window appears. 2 Select Shut down from the drop-down list. 3 Click OK. The computer shuts down completely.
