English PLAYING A SOURCE WITH THE DIGITAL SOUND FIELD PROCESSOR (DSP) EFFECT Follow steps 1 to 7 shown in "TO PLAY A SOURCE" on pages 24 to 25. Select the desired DSP program that is suitable for the source. Front panel Remote control or Press DSP. While the indicator is lit up for about three seconds, select a DSP program with the numeric buttons (1 to 8). * If the SELECTOR DIAL is set to the DSP position, you can also select a DSP program directly with the numeric buttons (1 to 8). The name of the selected program appears on the display. If desired, adjust the delay time and the output level of each speaker. (See pages 40 and 41 for details.) The following indicators on the display show you what sound processing is being undertaken. 12 3 4 5 TO CANCEL THE SOUND EFFECT To cancel the sound effect and monitor only the main sound, press EFFECT or EFCT ON/OFF. Press EFFECT or EFCT ON/OFF once more to turn sound effect back on. Front panel Remote control or Notes • You can select a program for each of the input sources. Once you select a program, it is linked with the input source selected at that time. So, when you select the input source next time, the same program is automatically called up. • When a monaural sound source is being played with DOLBY PRO LOGIC or DOLBY PRO LOGIC ENHANCED, no sound will be heard from the main speakers and the rear speakers. Sound can only be heard from the center speaker. However, if the NONE position is selected for "CNTR" in the SET MENU mode, the main speakers will output the sound of the center channel. • When the source of signals input to the EXTERNAL DECODER INPUT terminals of this unit is selected, DSP cannot be used. • If the sound effect is canceled when signals encoded with Dolby Digital or DTS are input to this unit, the signals of all channels are mixed and are output from the main speakers. • If EFFECT or EFCT ON/OFF is pressed to turn the sound effects off when Dolby Digital or DTS is decoded, it may happen that the sound is output faintly or not output normally, depending on the source. In that case, press EFFECT or EFCT ON/OFF to turn on the sound effects. 1 This lights up in orange when a DVD source encoded with DTS is played back and DTS is decoded. 2 This lights up in red when an LD source or a CD source encoded with DTS is played back and DTS is decoded. 3 This lights up when Dolby Digital is being decoded and the signals of the selected source encoded with Dolby Digital is not in 2-channel. 4 This lights up when the digital sound field processor is turned on. 5 This lights up when Dolby Surround is being decoded by Dolby Pro Logic. If you change the LD (or CD) being played back with DTS being decoded to another disc that is not encoded with DTS when the red "dts" indicator lights up, playing back the newly selected disc will result in no sound output. In this state, the red "dts" indicator flashes to show that this unit is locked in the DTS-decoding mode. To play back the disc normally, change the current DTSdecoding mode to another mode by INPUT MODE on the front panel or by INPUT on the remote control so that the red "dts" indicator goes off. 39
