Remove the key. 2-9 Emergency Trunk Release Handle Notice: Do not use the emergency trunk release handle as a tie-down or anchor point when securing items in the trunk as it could damage the handle. The emergency trunk release handle is only intended to aid a person trapped in a latched trunk, enabling them to open the trunk from the inside. There is an emergency trunk release handle inside the trunk on the liner, near the trunk latch. On some vehicles, the release handle can be accessed by folding the rear seatback down. See Rear Seats on page 3‑6. Pull the release handle to open the trunk from the inside. Return the release handle to its original position for proper operation. If the trunk lid cannot be opened using the RKE transmitter or the trunk release button: 1. Locate the manual release beside the rear seatback cushion on the driver side. 2. Pull the cushion to the side, then fully insert the key into the lock cylinder. 3. Firmly turn the key clockwise to unlatch the trunk lid.
