Maintenance If the plug is oily or have carbon built up on them, have them cleaned, preferably in a sand-blasting device, and then clean off any abrasive particles. The plug may also be cleaned using a high flash-point solvent and a wire brush or other suitable tool. Measure the gap with a wire-type thickness gauge, and adjust the gap if incorrect by bending the outer electrode. If the spark plug electrodes are corroded or damaged, or if the insulator is cracked, replace the plug. Use the standard plug. j Spark Plug Standard Plug Plug Gap Tightening Torque NGK DPR8EA-9 (Solid post terminal type) 0.8 ∼ 0.9 mm (0.031 ∼ 0.035 in.) 14.0 N·m (1.4 kgf·m, 10.1 ft·lb) NOTE żFit the plug securely. żPull up the spark plug cap lightly to make sure of its good installation.
