Receiving Faxes
Chapter 5
Different Ways to Receive a Fax
The MultiPASS provides you with several modes for receiving faxes. Read this
section to determine which mode best suits your requirements, by considering how
you want to use the MultiPASS.
You can change the Receive Mode and the Receive Fax options through the
MultiPASS Fax Setup Utility or through the operation panel. To adjust these
settings fromthe Fax Setup Utility, see
Setting Up Receive Fax Options
in Chapter 3,
Using the MultiPASS Fax Setup Utility
, in the online
Desktop Manager Software
Guide
. To adjust these settings through the operation panel, see Chapter 5,
Receiving Faxes
in the online
Standalone Fax Manual
.
Fax/Tel Mode
Use this mode if you will occasionally use the MultiPASS as a telephone. In this
mode, if an incoming call is from a fax machine, the MultiPASS receives the
faxes automatically, without ringing; if the call is from a person, the MultiPASS
rings to alert you to pick up the telephone (connected to your unit) to answer
the call. This mode is economical, in that it allows you to have phone and fax
service without the expense of an additional phone line.
This mode also includes settings that let you control precisely how it handles
incoming calls. To adjust these settings from the Fax Setup Utility, see the
online
MultiPASS Desktop Manager Software Guide
. To adjust these settings via
the operation panel, refer to the online
Standalone Fax Manual
.
MANUAL MODE
Use this mode if you will frequently use the MultiPASS as a telephone and
want to answer every call yourself, including fax calls. The MultiPASS rings for
every call, whether phone or fax, and you must press the
Start/Scan
button to
begin receiving a fax.
FAX ONLY MODE
Use this mode if the MultiPASS will be connected to a separate telephone line
used only for faxing. The MultiPASS then answers all calls, and receives all
faxes automatically.
ANS.MACHINE MODE
Use this mode if you plan to connect an answering machine to the MultiPASS
to receive faxes and phone messages. The MultiPASS then receives incoming
faxes normally, and routes incoming phone calls to the answering machine.
