Guidelines for Installing Ultra ATA IDE Devices When installing additional IDE drives, follow these guidelines: s For optimal performance, connect hard drives to the primary controller. Connect expansion devices, such as IDE CD-ROM drives, tape drives, and diskette drives, to the secondary controller. s Install either a third-height or a half-height drive into a half-height bay. s Install guide screws to ensure that the drive lines up correctly in the drive cage. Compaq has provided extra guide screws, which are installed in the front of the workstation chassis behind the front bezel. Some options use M3 metric hardware. Compaq-supplied metric screws are black. SCSI Devices This section contains information relating to SCSI device guidelines and installation. Guidelines for Using SCSI Devices When installing and operating SCSI devices, you must follow these guidelines: s A single Ultra SCSI, Ultra-Wide SCSI, Wide Ultra2 SCSI, or Wide-Ultra160 SCSI controller allows you to daisy-chain up to 15 additional SCSI devices. Including the controller, that equals 16 total SCSI devices. s If 2 SCSI controllers are present, each connected to separate system board SCSI connector, each controller may have 7 SCSI devices attached. This configuration yields a total of 16 SCSI devices on the system. B-2 Hard Drive Installation
