Prepare the computer for disassembly (see Preparation for disassembly on page 48). 2. Remove the bottom cover (see Bottom cover on page 48). 3. Disconnect the battery cable from the system board (see Battery on page 50). Remove the fan/heat sink assembly: 1. Disconnect the two fan cables (1) from the system board. 2. Loosen the five captive screws (2) that secure the fans to the computer. 3. In the order indicated on the fan/heat sink assembly, loosen the four Phillips captive screws (3) that secure the fan/heat sink assembly to the computer. 4. Remove the fan/heat sink assembly (4) from the computer. 5. Thoroughly clean the thermal material from the surfaces of the fan/heat sink assembly and the system board components each time the fan/heat sink assembly is removed. Replacement thermal material is included with the fan/heat sink assembly and system board spare part kits. The following illustration shows the replacement thermal material locations.
