Testing the Printer Installation If you made your printer the default system printer, type the following commands to test it: cd Enter lp .profile Enter If your printer (called printername) is not listed as the default system printer, enter the following command to test it: lp -dprintername .profile Enter The file named .profile should print out on your new printer. For information on printer-related problems, see Chapter 6 of this book. HP Parallel The parallel port is compatible with Centronics® standards, plus some additional features found in HP Series 700 workstations. It supports a bi-directional register model interface in addition to printer-only DMA. Series 700 Scanjet interfaces are not supported. A high-density micro D-sub connector is used for the HP Parallel interface. An HP A4300A conversion cable is required to convert to a standard PC compatible 25-pin female D-sub cable.
