Turn off the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. 2. Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from the computer. 3. Disconnect all external devices from the computer. 4. Remove the battery (see Battery on page 42), and then remove the following components: a. Service door (see Service door on page 43) b. Memory module (see Memory module on page 45) c. WLAN module (see WLAN module on page 47) d. Optical drive (see Optical drive on page 49) e. Keyboard (see Keyboard on page 55) f. Top cover (see Top cover on page 59) g. Hard drive (see Hard drive on page 63) h. System board (see System board on page 71) i. Fan (see Fan on page 80) Remove the heat sink assembly: 1. Turn the system board upside down, with the front toward you. NOTE: Steps 2 through 4 apply to computer models equipped with switchable discrete graphics. See steps 5 through 7 for heat sink assembly removal information for computer models equipped with UMA graphics. 2. Remove the heat sink assembly:
1.
Turn the system board upside down, with the front toward you.
NOTE:
Steps 2 through 4 apply to computer models equipped with switchable discrete graphics. See
steps 5 through 7 for heat sink assembly removal information for computer models equipped with UMA
graphics.
2.
Following the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 sequence stamped into the heat sink assembly, loosen the four Phillips
PM2.0×10.0 captive screws
(1)
and the three Phillips PM2.0×3.5 captive screws
(2)
that secure the heat
sink assembly to the system board.
