Installation Requirements To install the disk array on an SGI IRIX system, ensure that the environment conforms to these requirements: • HP Surestore Disk Array XP with SCSI ports (XP256) or Fibre Channel ports The disk array Fibre Channel port must have a Fibre Channel loop ID set that is unique within the Fibre Channel loop. All ports are set to a default of 0 by the factory. • SGI O2, OCTANE, Onyx2, CHALLENGE, ORIGIN 200, or ORIGIN 2000 systems and Challenge systems • SGI IRIX operating system, version 6.2, 6.4, or 6.5.7 Contact Silicon Graphics to ensure the most current OS patches are installed on the system. • superuser (root) login access to the system • (Recommended) HP Surestore Command View XP software • (Optional) HP Surestore Performance Advisor XP software XP256 The total cable length attached to each SCSI adapter must not exceed 20 meters (65.6 feet). Differential SCSI Do not attach the disk array to any single-ended SCSI device. Ultra-wide differential or Adapters fast-wide differential (FWD) adapters are recommended. The logical devices are defined to the host as SCSI disk devices, whether the interface is SCSI or Fibre Channel. Fibre Channel Interface Full-speed (100 MB/s) Fibre Channel interface, including shortwave non-OFC optical interface, multimode optical cables with SC connectors, and gigabit link modules (GLMs). For information on supported Fibre Channel adapters, hubs, and switches, contact your HP service representative. The total Fibre Channel cable length attached to each Fibre Channel adapter must not exceed 500 meters (1,640 feet). Do not connect any OFC-type connector to the disk array. Do not connect or disconnect Fibre Channel cabling that is being actively used for I/O. Connectivity Options The disk array has the following connectivity options. The all-open SCSI (XP256) or Fibre Channel SCSI (XP512) configuration will be used by most HP customers. • (XP256 only) SCSI 12 hp surestore disk array xp operating system configuration guide: SGI IRIX
