Troubleshooting Problem 15 A firmware upgrade is unsuccessful, causing the controller to hang. Solution 15 The new firmware can be temporarily disabled and the upgrade attempted again by following the steps below: 1. Power-off the system. 2. Place shorting jumpers across pins 1 and 2 and pins 3 and 4 of P9 on the controller. 3. Insert the SMOR boot disk and power on the system. This will start SMOR. NOTE: The SMOR boot disk image is available from the Adaptec Technical Support site. The download file contains the disk image and instructions for use. 4. Use SMOR to update the firmware. You must restore all three components of the flash ROM, firmware, I2O BIOS, and SMOR. 5. Power-off the system and return the jumpers to their original positions. 6. Insert the card in a host system PCI slot. 7. Remove the SMOR boot disk from your floppy disk drive and power-up the system. Problem 16 After an upgrade of the I2O BIOS only, pressing Ctrl+A at the system prompt displays the message: Card not configurable.
