Working with internal drives Use the following information and instructions for installing and removing internal drives. When you are installing an internal drive, it is important to note what kind of drive you can install in each bay and the height restrictions imposed by each drive bay. Also, it is important to correctly connect the internal drive cables to the installed drive. For more information, see "Internal drives." Internal drives: Internal drives are devices that your server uses to read and store data. You can add drives to your server to increase storage capacity and to enable your server to read other types of media. Some of the different drives available for your server are: Diskette drives Hard disk drives Tape drives CD-ROM drives Internal drives are installed in bays. Within this book, the bays are referred to as bay 1, bay 2, and so on. Your server comes with the following IBM-installed drives: A CD-ROM drive in bay 1. A 3.5-inch diskette drive in bay 4. A 3.5-inch hard disk drive in bay 5 (in some models). The following illustration shows the location of the drive bays in your server.
