Installing and Replacing Motherboard Components How to Install and Remove the Motherboard Refer to your chassis manual for instructions on installing and removing the motherboard. The motherboard is secured to the chassis by seven screws. Figure 3 shows the locations of the mounting screw holes. NOTES You will need a Phillips (#2 bit) screwdriver. Refer to Appendix B for regulatory requirements and installation instructions and precautions. WARNING This procedure should be done only by qualified technical personnel. Disconnect the computer from its power source before doing the procedures described here. Failure to disconnect the power before you open the computer can result in personal injury or equipment damage. OM07170 Figure 3. Mounting Screw Holes How to Install a Processor To install a processor, in brief you must: 1. Install the universal retention mechanism (URM). 2. Install the processor. 3. Set the processor speed.
