Replacing a Server Board Removing the Server Board 1. Observe the safety and ESD precautions at the beginning of this book. See "Safety Information" on page iii. 2. Power down the server and unplug all peripheral devices and the AC power cable. 3. Remove the server system cover. For instructions, see "Removing the Server System Cover" on page 14. 4. Remove the processor air duct. For instructions, see "Removing the Processor Air Duct" on page 28. 5. Remove the PCI riser assembly. For instructions, see "Removing the PCI Riser Assembly" on page 21. 6. Detach all cables connected at the front of the server board: Note: Use caution when disconnecting cables. Pull only on the cable connector, not on the cable. - Main power. The cable end is labeled P1 for the server board at the right and P2 for the server board at the left. Press and hold down on the tab at the center of the connector while you pull on the connector. - Front panel - Sys_fan_3 7. Detach the cables connected at the rear of the server board: - USB_2_3 - SATA_0 8. Remove the heat sink and the processor. For instructions, see "Removing the Heat Sink and Processor" on page 33. 9. Remove the DIMMs. For instructions, see "Removing DIMMs" on page 32. 10. Remove the six screws from the server board. See letter "A" and the arrows indicating the screw locations in the figure below. Removing the Server Board
1.
Observe the safety and ESD precautions at the beginning of this book. See
“Safety
Information” on page iii

2.
Power down the server and unplug all peripheral devices and the AC power cable.
3.
Remove the server system cover. For instructions, see
“Removing the Server
System Cover” on page 14
.
4.
Remove the processor air duct. For instructions, see
“Removing the Processor Air
Duct” on page 28
.
5.
Remove the PCI riser assembly. For instructions, see
“Removing the PCI Riser
Assembly” on page 21
.
6.
Detach all cables connected at the front of the server board:
Note:
Use caution when disconnecting cables. Pull only on the cable connector, not on the
cable.
Main power. The cable end is labeled P1 for the server board at the right and P2
for the server board at the left. Press and hold down on the tab at the center of
the connector while you pull on the connector.
