Chapter 2 Using the Flash When you take pictures at night, indoors, or outdoors in heavy shadows, your pictures need flash. The camera flash is effective when you are 2.5 to 7.5 feet (0.75 to 2.3 m) from your subject. Press the button repeatedly to scroll through the flash options. MENU The flash icon that is displayed on the LCD Status Bar (page 12) is the active option. SELECT Auto Flash-flash fires when the lighting conditions require it. Off-flash never fires. Fill-flash fires every time you take a picture, regardless of the lighting conditions. Red-eye-flash fires once so the subject's eyes become accustomed to the flash, then fires again when the picture is taken. Ideal for pictures of people. The Red-eye option remains in effect until you change it. NOTE: All flash options revert to Auto when the camera is turned off, except Red-eye. 18
