Replacing the microprocessor The procedure for replacing the microprocessor is different depend on the machine type. Machine types 8293, 8294, 8295, 8473, 8474, 8710, 8711, 8773, 8774, 8778, 8779, 8818, 8819, 9217, 9218, and 9219 Note: The new microprocessor is shipped with a new heat sink. Make sure to use the new heat sink when installing the new microprocessor. 1. Remove the cover. See "Removing the cover" on page 121. 2. Lift the fan duct off the heat sink fan. 3. Disconnect the heat sink and fan assembly cable from the system board. See the system board illustration for your machine type at "Identifying parts on the system board" on page 123. 4. Remove the four screws securing the heat sink and fan assembly to the system board. 5. Lift the heat sink and fan assembly off the failing system board. 142 Hardware Maintenance Manual
