Using printer menus Menu selection Parallel Mode 2 Mac Binary PS Purpose Values Determines whether the parallel port On* data is sampled on the leading or trailing edge of strobe. Off Configures the printer to process On Macintosh binary PostScript print jobs. Off Auto* Samples parallel port data on the leading edge of strobe. Samples parallel port data on the trailing edge of strobe. Printer processes raw binary PostScript print jobs from computers using the Macintosh operating system. Note: This setting often causes Windows print jobs to fail. Printer filters PostScript print jobs using standard protocol. Printer processes print jobs from computers using either Windows or Macintosh operating systems. Serial Use this menu selection to change printer settings affecting jobs sent to the printer through an optional serial port. Menu selection PCL SmartSwitch Purpose Values Configures the printer so it automatically On* switches to PCL emulation when a print job received through the serial port Off requires it, regardless of the default printer language. PS SmartSwitch Configures the printer so it automatically On* switches to PostScript emulation when a print job received through the serial port Off requires it, regardless of the default printer language. NPA Mode Specifies whether the printer performs the special processing required for bidirectional communication, following the conventions defined in the Network Printing Alliance (NPA) Protocol. Note: Changing this menu item automatically resets the printer. On Off Auto* On*-The printer examines the data at the serial interface and selects PCL emulation if the data indicates that is the required printer language. Off-The printer does not examine the incoming data. The printer uses PostScript emulation to process the job if PS SmartSwitch is On, or uses the default printer language specified in the Setup Menu if PS SmartSwitch is Off. Printer examines the incoming data to determine the format. If the incoming data is not NPA packets, the information is passed to the printer as non-NPA. 34
