Barracuda 9 family drive 3.1 Standard features Barracuda 9 drives have the following standard features: • Integrated SCSI controller • Single-ended or differential SCSI drivers and receivers • 8-bit and 16-bit I/O data bus models available • Asynchronous and synchronous data transfer protocols • Firmware downloadable using a SCSI interface • Programmable drive capacity • Selectable sector size from 180 to 4,096 bytes per sector • Flawed sector reallocation using sector slipping at format time • Programmable sector reallocation scheme • Programmable auto write and read reallocation • Reallocation of defects on command (post format) • 128-bit Reed-Solomon error-correction code for header and data fields • Sealed head and disc assembly (HDA) • No preventative maintenance or adjustment required • Dedicated laser textured head-landing zone • Embedded servo data rather than a separate servo data surface • Self-diagnostics performed when power is applied to the drive • 1:1 interleave • Zone bit recording (ZBR) • Vertical, horizontal, or top-down mounting • Dynamic spindle brake • Active IC terminators enabled by jumper ("N" and "W" models only) • 512 Kbyte data buffer (2 Mbyte data buffer available as an option).
